4x4 and Off Road Vehicles

Welcome to my bit on off road and 4x4 vehicles.

We’ve had our Mitsubishi Pajero Exceed for four years now, it was the best move we ever made. I used to see people with 4x4's and wonder how they managed to climb in and out with a bad back; should of asked a long time ago, instead of hauling myself in and out of my car, then walking around like I had messed my pants for three years. The Paj's seat height is relatively similar to that of my arse height, thus getting in and out of the vehicle has been a relatively painless experience.

Due to the restrictions of my health, I wasn’t riding my bike anymore, I barely put a 100 miles on it last year; so realization had to be confronted, reluctantly and emotionally, I made the decision to sell my bike. Bikes for me were a life’s passion and it still is, just because I cant ride doesn’t stop me wanting to. I really didn’t just want the money from the sale of the bike to just be eaten up with bills and forgotten; I wanted to try and replace the interest if I could.

I’ve always liked Landover’s, but never owned one;. After much discussion with Er hoo is to be obeyed, we decided to search for an old classic Landover, it could well turn out to be an investment if we bought carefully, if the Pajero was off the road we would have a backup vehicle, a classic Landrover would be something the whole family could enjoy, days out or even shows may be possible.

We eventually managed to find a nice example; nothing that’s been restored but certainly a vehicle that may well be worth restoring; I think we’ve done well? Low mileage backed up with history and a millage warranty certificate, she or he (undecided) is unmolested with original paintwork, body, engine, chasse and transmission.
A Landover is a series 3, manufactured in Solihul in 1975, 2.24Ltr, 4 cylinder petrol engine, with just 24'000 miles on the clock; hopefully it will turn out to be an investment in time. We contacted Heritage and they validated the condition as original.

As soon as we get a dry day, I’m going to look at the jobs that need doing and their importance and form some sort of plan: I’m going to try and do this as a running project for now, but I’m guessing at some point she will come off the road for work, what level of work or restoration will depend on what we find and of course funds.

My intention is to keep a record of any progress on here, maybe a blog? Any developments will available via links to the left of the page, hopefully some of the info will be of help or interest to someone.
